Discord Banner Size Guide (2026) + Free Profile Banner Template

Those numbers come straight from Discord's Help Center, and they settle the conflicting sizes you will find elsewhere. Below you will find how each banner is displayed, where your avatar and server name cover the art, how to upload each one, and what changes when you use an animated GIF.

Free Discord profile banner template

We measured where Discord draws your avatar, status bubble and buttons on top of a profile banner, on desktop, in the web app and on mobile, and turned it into a free template. Put it on top of your design and you can see exactly what stays visible.

The ZIP holds a transparent overlay at 680 × 240 and 1360 × 480, this labelled guide in English, German and Spanish, and short instructions. It works in any editor with layers, including Canva, Photopea, Photoshop, GIMP and Krita.

What each zone means

• Avatar

  Your profile picture covers the bottom-left corner. It is largest on the full profile and in the Edit Profile preview, a little smaller in the popout that opens when someone clicks your name, and smallest on mobile. The three outlines show each one.

• Status bubble

  If you set a custom status, its bubble sits on the bottom edge, just right of your avatar.

• Buttons

  Discord puts buttons in the top-right corner: the ⋯ menu when someone views your profile, and on your phone the Shop and Settings buttons, or Preview profile while you edit.

• Mobile crop

  On your own You tab in the mobile app, the top of the banner is cropped. Other people still see the whole banner.

• Best spot

  The green box stays clear on every screen we measured. Put your name, logo and faces there.

How to use the template

1. Make the canvas

   Create a 680 × 240 px canvas, or 1360 × 480 px for a sharper result.

2. Add the overlay

   Place the matching transparent overlay PNG on the top layer.

3. Design underneath

   Build your banner below the overlay and keep the important parts in the green box.

4. Hide it and export

   Hide or delete the overlay, then export as PNG, JPG or GIF under 10 MB.

Discord banner sizes at a glance

Discord profile banner size

Your profile banner is the wide image at the top of your profile card. Discord requires at least 680 × 240 pixels, which is a wide 17:6 shape, in PNG, JPG or animated GIF format and under 10 MB. To keep it sharp on high-resolution screens, you can design it at double size (1360 × 480) and export it under the 10 MB limit.

Where your avatar covers the banner

Discord places your profile picture over the bottom-left of the banner, so anything there disappears behind it. The template above shows exactly how far it reaches on each screen, plus the status bubble and buttons that sit on top of the art.

How to change your Discord profile banner

1. Open Edit Profile

   On desktop, click your avatar at the bottom left and choose Edit Profile. On mobile, tap You, then Edit Profile.

2. Choose Profile Banner

   Select Profile Banner in the left column (on mobile, tap the pencil on your banner) and upload your PNG, JPG or GIF.

3. Crop and apply

   Drag and zoom until the image fills the frame, then select Apply.

Discord server banner size

The server banner sits at the top of your channel list. Discord recommends 960 × 540 pixels at a 16:9 aspect ratio. A 1920 × 1080 image also works, and Discord resizes it for you.

• Boost Level 2 for a static banner

  Your server needs 7 boosts. Discord Partner servers get the banner without boosting.

• Boost Level 3 for an animated banner

  At 14 boosts, a GIF banner animates. If the server drops back to Level 2, the same banner turns static.

• Keep the top 48 pixels simple

  Discord writes your server name across the top of the banner, so busy detail there makes the name hard to read.

Discord also recommends avoiding text and logos in server banners. Background art, key art or subtle textures work best, because the server name is already written on top. To upload one, server owners and members with the Manage Server permission open Server Settings and find the server banner option on the overview or server profile page.

Discord invite background size

The invite background is the image behind your server's invite pop-up in the app and browser. It needs to be 1920 × 1080 pixels in JPG or PNG format, and it unlocks at Boost Level 1 (2 boosts).

Because the invite card covers the center, avoid putting a logo or text in the middle. You can check the result by opening your invite link in a private browser window. Our Discord invite backgrounds are made at the full 1920 × 1080 size.

Animated Discord banners (GIF)

Two of the three banners can move. A profile banner can be an animated GIF if you have Nitro, and a server banner animates once the server reaches Boost Level 3. The invite background accepts only JPG and PNG, so it stays static.

Animated server banners do not play all the time. Discord plays the animation for 5 seconds when the server loads, again when the banner scrolls back into view, and whenever someone hovers over it. Members who turn on reduced motion see it still. That makes the first frame important, since many people see it paused.

Can you change your Discord banner without Nitro?

Not with an image. Discord only lets Nitro members upload a profile banner image or GIF, so without Nitro there is no way to add custom banner art to your profile. Server banners work differently: they depend on the server's boost level, not your own subscription, so a server that reaches Level 2 can show a banner to every member.
